American Electric This is my American Electric 100watt MV and 120volt. I got this 1-30-10 at a hardware store. The housing is made out of plastic. The ballast is very heavy and big! As you can see it has a PC socket instead of the PC built-in. The fixture can be mounted on a arm which is provided with the light. The socket is mogul. This fixture came with a Philips-Westinghouse bulb (H38JA-100/DX) made in September-1985. It also came with a ALR PC. The light was made in April-30-1986. i see a few of these around...they are my second favorite style ini Bucket..(Behind the Regent Accents)...never knew they were plastic.

I think despite this fixture contain a MV and a ballast and looks like a mini street light, this is actually a household exterior fixture. Because it can have an indepent photocell (Like many PL entrance lights outside homes in Israel which contain internal photocells [Which acts as a house number and street name sign]). Street lights usually operated as a group of lanterns inside the neighborhood which all the lights in the group turn on and off by a one time switch or a one photocell.

yes this is Designed for Outdoor Security Lighting....i usually see these on the walls...sometimes on the Pole.

In the past in Israel there were also small fixtures with this design (But not this bucket shape) for security lighting with MVs. But today most of the fixtures used for security lighting are floodlights with 250W-400W HPSs and MHs, but there are still use of old small fixture with magnifying lens using 70W HPSs. Also because CRI is not important in outdoor security lighting, LPSs will be much more efficient then DX mercury and produce much more light at less wattage but at the expense of lamp life.

Where I used to live in Illinois there was a bunch of them on apartments (2 per apartment on parking lot side) and they were HPS....some had internal photocell and others had the same as above....there were some other types too like the cheap Regent yardblasters and some real NEMAs (not many)...

In Israel the only fixtures that have a bulit in photocell or have an option for internal PC (Electronic only) are the PL entrance lights outside homes which act as a sign to display the street name and the number of the house. Any other means of exterior lighting in Israel don't have internal photocells in the fixtures but lit by a shared exterior photocell like in case of time switchs.

Great find - amazing it was still in a hardware store after several DECADES! I have the same fixture, though it came with a dayburning PC, a 175w clear mercury lamp in the socket, and no refractor. I restored it to the 70w HPS version & used the other components elsewhere.

Way cool! This fixture used to come with a cleartop/clearband Westinghouse BT-25 lamp. I always liked these as they are very nice looking. In fact, I used to have the 70 watt HPS version of it, and it too came with a Westinghouse clear BT-25 lamp.

TmcDllr clearbands are only found on Sylvania mercs from the late 70s so it would be a clear top...

I just used one of those plugs you put on the end of a cord, simple little thing...

Great find! I remember still seeing these (with internal photocells) on store shelves, both in Mercury Vapor and "High Power Sodium."

I have one just like it, maybe being only a few months newer. What branding is on the PC socket?

Interesting. Mine is blank where the branding would be, and some newer NEMAs have American Electric branding on their sockets.

It looks original (the fixture was NOS when I got it). It looks exactly the same as the ITT and AE ones, except its blank where the others say "ITT" or "American Electric"
