Sears plant light
I built this light a few weeks ago out of stuff I found around the house. First, I found this Sears "Easy Gro Plant Light" I have no idea where it came from. Probably got it at a garage sale somewhere, sometime. Looks 70's/80's vintage. Then found a strip light carcass, added an Advance choke, plastic cage starter socket, spare wire, sockets and end pieces I had laying around, and half an hour later I had built this fixture to display this lamp. It is in my laundry room where there are no live plants but it adds an interesting vibe to the room.

Can you get a pic of the etch on the lamp?
Heck, you could even grow plants in here in the winter!

I converted the striplight to trigger-start several years ago and the lamp started rectifying and blackened at one end a few weeks ago. I was surprised that it didn't last longer - it must have had more use on it than I thought when I first put it into service. It finished off quickly on an instant-start electronic ballast and has been replaced by a less-interesting but brighter GE Plant & Aquarium tube.

I always thought those trigger start ballasts were really gentle on their lamps too! However it seems as though many lamps look "new" or "unused" well into their lifespan, plus the lifespan of a F20T12 is only 9000 hours anyway...

I think RS is a little better than TS when it comes to being easy on the lamps. Perhaps it's because, like you said, the shorter lamps are only 9000 hours while the longer lamps are rated for like 15000-20000 hours.
