Thanks! It starts warm white for the first few seconds,then shifts in into a bluish clear mercury colour for a minute,then gradually changes orange.

ahh interesting. I have a 400W MH lamp for use on HPS but no HPS conversion lamps. it starts off like an orinary MH lamp but a little bluer at start up. as far as i know, it's a CMH too (Philips)

My Philips 250W Retro CMH starts off warm white, good lamps.

Nice! I don't have any HID retrofit lamps. IIRC the ones that start up red have neon as the fill gas.
