huge reflector. Shocked Shocked

Yep it's pretty big for a medium fixture but I tried to see if a BT56 would fit but it didn't.
streetlight98   [Aug 10, 2011 at 04:37 AM]
Maybe if the socket wasn't mounted on the inside of the reflector it would fit.
joe_347V   [Aug 10, 2011 at 04:39 AM]
It might but the B2255 wasn't really designed for BT56 lamps.

true. BTW, how does the light color differ between coated and uncoated hps lamps?
joe_347V   [Aug 10, 2011 at 04:45 AM]
I THINK it's the same colour but more diffused since I believe coated HPS dosen't use a phosphor. I haven't lit mine up yet to compare.

I've never seen a coated HPS lamp in person.

I own a coated phillips HPS lamp that came in my M-400 R2 a LOOONG time ago. What Darren has is a lot more rare than what I have, but still both are rare.

Coated HPS lamos were made because they were designed to go in old MV fixtures that were designed for coated lamps, The HPS coating Is not a phosphor, it's just a coating powder to scatter the light like coated MV lamps do.

I wish FCO's used more coated lamps cause the lighting distribution is MUCH better with a coated lamp than a clear lamp.

I don't even see coated lamps sold any where
joe_347V   [Aug 10, 2011 at 05:02 AM]
Yeah, coated HPS especially high watt ones, are pretty rare. I only have a 400w one that was in a box of HID lamps at Restore.

I believe the lower watt ED17 ones were more common since they used to come with residential HPS lights.

I don't think coated long thin HPS lamps were ever made though. I like coated lamps, less glare.

I don't think any HID lamp was ever made in tubular shape and coated. I believe the coating can't handle the heat if it's so close to the arctube.
