Incandescent vs. LED
|
LED Durasig 12-8-8 signal compared with a worn out incnadescent CGE 8-8-8. The CGE has a early poly lens which hasn't aged well over the years. One of the disadvantages of poly signal lenses is that they get really dull over the years. The reflector could probably use a good clean too.
Note the emerald green light compared to the LED, early poly lenses were true green which gave a emerald green light compared to the bluish green found in later poly lenses and glass lenses. LEDs tend to range from a bluish green to turquoise.

I have seen Incandescent signals that have Brown tinges in them or the green is barely visible because it gets really dirty. Is it possible for the Incandescent bulb to overheat causing burns on the lens?
Yeah the poly lenses will brown and eventually crack if the light stays on for too long, I guess a lot of the remaining incandescent lights haven't been cleaned recently too.
I guess eventually my collection will be the only signals that still have "incandescent lamps" in them. Technically I switched mine to LED too but using LED filament lamps that look a lot more incandescent compared to your average LED insert lol.
It doesn't seem popular ever since countdown timers became a thing. lol.
You have spare incandescent inserts for your signal?
