I always liked this style shoe box light with the round reflector, vertical lamp, and sag glass. Basically a highbay inside a square weathertight enclosure lol. Vertical burn like this is very good for MH lamps. HPS supposedly works better with a sideways lamp (definitely true for LPS other than low wattage LPS). Mercury vapor works the same either way, though very early MV lamps could only work vertical like early MH lamps. Even universal burn MH lamps work better vertical. Sideways, CRI, lumens, and lamp life are all sacrificed with MH.

My favourite styles of shoebox are this style and the ones that use a dropped lens. Yeah I think when MH became popular for parking lot lighting they switched to using vertical burn fixtures for those benefits.

Yeah apparently the Form 109 had a arc centering coil to allow the thn vertical burn only MV lamps to run horizontally. Seems like a interesting workaround too.

UPDATE: These have been replaced by GE Evolve LED fixtures.
