This one was a dayburner so i stuck the cover on the guts of a Fisher Pierce Sun-Tech photocell so this is probably the only 1980s electronic Fisher Pierce Photocell out there lol. It was originally a 120-277V electromechanical PC.
Kinda like seeing spiral CFLs in vintage fixtures like my 1940 vapor/explosion-proof incandescent, or F32T8 Altos in a vintage preheat 4' fixture! (All combos many people dislike but I find amusing and kinda cool myself).
I suppose. Every time I go to pick up this photocell I use way too much force because it's a lot lighter than I expect, with the electronic guts instead of the electromechanical relay gears instead.
With something that small!
Yeah imagine if all the sagging yardblasters and shoeboxes in America were modified with cheap electronic photocells and electronic gear/ballasts so they didn't sag anymore!
Yeah the mounts are pretty bad on those yardblaster arms. A top bolt would be much better. I have a couple 60s photocells and they have some serious weight compared to later PCs!
Yeah twistlock PCs first came out in the 50s IIRC. By 1970, the internal gears were shrunk down to about the size they remained until electronic PCs took over. That's why older PCs (like the one on my M-250R in most of its photos) have taller cover on them, though that PC in particular is a "transition" PC made after the components were shrunk down but before they started using the shorter covers.
Yeah that PC has a tall cover but "short guts" that would fit in a smaller unit. My other tall Ripley originally had the full-sized guts but it was a dayburner and I wanted to keep the guts original for display so I stuck some "short guts" inside my other tall Ripley so both work now.
