Da beast! Industrial variac from 1944! Here's my variac. It's slightly larger than average as you can see LOL. The lamp (running at 50V here), which is a PS-35, gives the scale xD One thing I noticed yesterday when I took it out of storage... Inside the enclosure there are two blueprints (REAL blueprints!), dated May 18, 1944, and their headers are titled "Federal dep't of defense". Would this be a military-grade variac? o_O If so, no wonder it's still working 70 years later! Keywords: Gear

Wonder if it's American or Canadian then? Cool! What's the max wattage? Also would this work on a modified sine wave inverter?

yes a Variac would work on modified sine wave since all a Variac in essence is a Auto transformer (I had a Variac that ran on any thing from 46Hz to 400Hz Heh)

So, it is just basically autotransformer circuit only?
