Here's a shot of some of the parts for the backlit sign I designed a few days ago assembled. I still have to make the top and bottom channels and the junction box covers but both end caps and the ballast/socket assembly is complete. I reused the channel so I'll have to disassemble it and repaint it white later.
It's really cool that you are making all this stuff yourself. I would love to make something like this but my only option is 3D printing, and I couldn't print something that large. I did design a junction box extender that can hold a small HPS choke and ignitor, but I haven't printed it yet.
Thanks, yeah 3D printing is nice but its size limit kinda makes it only good for models and small parts. Now if there was a affordable one that's fairly big and can do metal that would be nice. I designed it around the limitations of the machines so most of the parts were designed to be easy to make using basic shop equipment (metal lathe, milling machine, sheet metal shear and brake)
A large 5 axis VMC would be very nice as you could just machine an entire cobrahead (or the die cast mold for one) out of a big block of aluminium if you had money to burn for that big of a billet lol.
