8' F96T12HO Fluorescent This fixture is a newer Lithonia striplight that has a Accupro electronic HO ballast inside that has the same cross section as a F40 RS and the length of a HO/SL ballast. The channel is still as deep as the old magnetic HOs though and uses decent lampholders unlike the newest Lithonia HO fixtures which I've seen are the same depth as a standard slimline fixture and come with cheaper holders. The current lamps are Philips cool white energy savers which start dim and striate a lot before they warmup even during warmer weather. I should have got those Sylvania 110w lamps at Lowe's. This fixture is now magnetically ballasted, I replaced the tacky Accupro ballast with this Advance full power magnetic ballast. The lamps are noticeably brighter now too.

Nice! I relamped my grandpa's burnt out HO fixture with two full-wattage 110W Philips Altos. The fixture was out for as long as i can remember and he had finally bought lamps for it. he had the LOA F40 fixture chained below it for the longest time becuase he was too cheap to buy the HO lamps lol. now it's working but the LOA is still mounted lol. I put bad lamps in it though so i could take the good lamps from it to fix a troffer at his shop lol.

Currently hung on some chains in the garage. I used the proper chain hanging brackets too. And no the Altos still haven't died yet. Laughing

IMO some of the Altos are actually pretty decent lamps (same for the GE Ecoluxes)...such as some of their F40T12s and 75w F96T12s. Their energy-saver T-12s were horrible along with some of their F32T8s.

Well, these are fine in the summer but they're a bit dim in the winter since they're energy saver lamps.

That sounds great compared to what the 60w F96T12s do even in warm CA...they STILL flicker and striate at first even in like 80-degree (Fareneheit) temps!

Well, if they go EOL I've getting full wattage tubes.........

Exactly what I would do...use up the energy savers then when they go EOL replace them with full-wattage lamps...

I actually would have bought the full wattage ones if I knew Lowe's sold them. These are the only two energy saver lamps I own too. All of my F40T12 and F32T8 fixtures use full wattage lamps.

I always prefer full-wattage lamps but I do have quite a few GE 34w Watt-Misers at my house in Alaska I got for free...they're good "tester" lamps (so if an unknown ballast is bad I don't ruin vintage lamps), although I will only ever use them in fixtures with "Energy-Saver" ballasts and not on my vintage full-power, PCB rapid-start ballasts...

Well, I'm probably not going to pay full price for a energy saver lamp. But I usually use modern lamps are my tester lamps. I find some energy saver ballasts drive lamps at a lower BF while some drive at a BF close to full power and preheat ballasts.

Yeah that seems to be the case in my experience as well; my energy saver lamps were free and worked, so I couldn't pass them up...

Well, I don't really have the space for them but if they were free I'll probably take 4 to save/use as testers...

Although I think full wattage lamps have better performance in the cold and have a better colour rendering (even for /CW when they were still made).

Yeah is it just me or do the F34T12s have an ugly yellowish-green glow to them?

They do for some reason, some are also prone to mercury condensing on the glass and leaving those mold like spots on it.

Seems the older ones REALLY were prone to that...like the Westy Econ-o-Watt blackenders!

I find later Philips lamps are prone to that too. One of the better things about people converting to T8 is I don't have to see those spotted 34w lamps in commercial places now. Razz
