why does many have hanging cover? IS there ANY with intact cover?

There are a few with latched covers, but most are hanging or burnt where I could get close enough to get a good photo. These have been in service for at least half a century. Colin identified a similar fitting for me a while ago.

Yep, It was Me who Identified this as the GEC Z8496 I have one the same but with a Later Yellowed Bowl see (...) Your Photo shows the same light but with a Glass Bowl and Aluminium Frame, which holds the Bowl in place.

Just hanging around

Still in use with a 150W incandescent lamp in it, on old Parks Board property. Many have a hanging cover, some are missing and a few have been burnt through.
