Edit/update: I have now taken this apart after it shorted out.

How did this short out?! Bad wiring? Not up to code?!

Well since I used stranded wire on the terminals of the sockets it didn't hold very well and then came off, I don't think something like this could ever meet code anyways, it was grounded though. BTW I was only 11 years old when I made this, if I made it it now it would of been done differently.
