I originally got this bare aluminium enclosure for my 50w MV ballast but it ran really hot in the enclosure because of how much heat the 50w MV ballasts generate. Anyway I milled some ventilation slots on the top and bottom of the enclosure and painted it NEMA gray. I'm debating whether to keep it gray or to paint it another colout.
Wow looks nice! I think the gray paint looks nice too. Did you buy a milling machine or is this at a shop? What other kinds of things can you do on it? Looks similar to a drill press.
Thanks, I'm just using a mill at a shop. It's a vertical knee mill similar to a Bridgeport mill. A milling machine would be nice but they're quite expensive and big lol. Yeah it's like a drill press but you can do so much more on the mill. I ended up keeping the grey and assembled the box. Now I just need to wait until the paint cures fully so it won't smell every time I turn it on.
Yeah it's pretty cool to be able to use the machinery. I've also made some parts on the lathe. With the right tooling and setup I can probably make arm brackets too. Yeah those a 7/8" KOs for connectors, I drilled those with a hand drill so they're not as precise as the slots. If I did everything on the mill I'd probably line up the KOs with the slots.
