Finishing off some tubes on a slimline ballast
This was back in October. I had a few tubes to run up to the vacuum loss. It was more or less successful. one Duro-Test and one Sylvania had a cool vacuum loss, making a clear spot in the phosphors. The others never lost their vacuum...

In my grandpa's basement, he has a bunch of 4lamp F40T12 troffers. I opened one of them and found the ends of one lamp clear. Now I know why.

THats strange, most trotters have rapid start ballasts, the open circuit voltage is in the 400V range, usually vacuum loss occurs with 600 OCV

I didn't check what kind of ballast it was. I know each troffer has two 2lamp magnetic Advance ballasts. The ballasts didn't start the lamps right away, about a 5 second delay, so does that mean it's a preheat ballast?

Oh ok, nope that would be rapid start , preheat would be more blinky, and preheat is rare in trofffers, you would see starters if it was preheat

Oh. No starters, so it's not preheat. Well, they don't strat very rapidly, that's for sure. Confused I went over his house and relamped them. They all work, but man it's a pain changing those lamps crammed into that tight 4X2 housing. I almost broke one of the tubes.
