Windows Paint Rendition of an Opti-Tron Instrument Cluster
here's something i made in windows paint.

its a rendition of an Optitron Instrument cluster.

the "Optitron" is the trade mark name for Electroluminescent Gauge Clusters in Toyota's Luxury Marque Lexus, first appearing on the LS 400 Flagship and eventually spreading to the rest of the Lexus Line of vehicles, once exclusive to the Lexus line the Optitrons have now began being offered in Toyota's as well.

while the fact these gauges are electroluminescent is hardly unique (EL Gauges existed in the 60's) it's the way the clusters appear is what's unique...the gauges are somewhat halographic in nature, the Gauge Faces,Needles are only visable when the cluster is illuminated, when off they are near invisable....makes for a unique look but very problematic should the lighting fail.

these type clusters are fairly common on modern cars Especially luxury makes.

I think this arrangement would be not viable in cars due to simple reason:
The cluster should be in the "window" framed on the top and sides by the steering wheel and on the bottom by the horizontal line going a bit above the column.
So or the steering wheel would partially obstruct the speed/rpm gauges, or the cluster would have to be small...
Moreover the transmission indicator does not have to be so large, two letter area would be by far enough...

well it was just an experiment so im not concerned or critical about specific details thank you...and this would be a closeup so the Shroud around the cluster does not need to be visable, the cluster would be seen through the steering wheel just fine in an actual situation Smile

as for the Gear Indicatior, there are car's with some that actually look like this and i like it just fine.

These particular types of clusters actually are used in some cars, and they look pretty nice. Besides, this is just a Windows Paint rendition of one, and for being done in Windows Paint, it looks pretty good!
