Camera Comparision
Here's a comparison of a 250w MV lamp on a CWA ballast taken with two different types of cameras.

The one on the left was taken with one of those "camera-on-a-chip" cameras commonly used on cell phones and other mobile devices. And the one on the right was taken with my regular camera colour balanced for fluorescent.

Notice the "line" effect on the left pic that seems to be common when you take a picture of a line frequency light source with a "camera-on-a-chip" camera, I'm not sure why it happens though. frame rate?, sensor differences?

I was wondering why I'd been seeing so many pics with stripes lately!
GullWhiz   [Aug 16, 2011 at 09:11 PM]
flash pattern related....its from the 60 hz....

Interesting, I wonder if using a HX ballast will produce a different line effect since I heard it has a different flash pattern?

I guess you used an iPhone for the pic on the left.

Nope, guess again Razz
Well I guess you could cheat by downloading it and checking the properties.

Yes Joe it will have different flash patterns......if you get a camera, a very dark room and ONE light....then have the camera set to long shutter (like 5 to 15 seconds long) and cover the lens with your hand....then quickly swing the camera across the light source at a distance with your hand flapping open for just one second and covering the lens until the camera is finished taking pics....you'll see a clear pattern!

Interesting, but I'll have to use my old KODAK CAMERA MWAHAHA for that since my other cameras don't support long exposures. Sad

be sure the camera is swinging across the light source (best is swing it across the narrow part of the light (such as if you were using a 4 foot florescent mounted vertically...then swing the camera left or right...(one direction recommended) but if horizontally go up or down...same goes for HPS and MV ...whatever the arctube is positioned)....for LEDs...it doesn't matter! Be sure to uncover the lens while swinging but when finished making a swipe swing...COVER THE LENS don't let THY light in...or else the GULL will melt!
