My GE M250R2 warming up
Ahhh yes. looky what I got!! I FINALLY found the opportunity to take a streetlight during the LED wave. I've actually had this lamp for about 2 weeks now. I would of posted about this sooner but I kept on putting it off due to being busy.
During that morning I was driving to my classes and saw NGrid was replacing this pole here: https://www.google.com/maps/@41.7674641,-71.134697,3a,45y,82.25h,107.36t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sLkdqtz_sQXrCJhBtvn5NeA!2e0!7i3328!8i1664 (Google seriously hasn't done a newer streetview of these side streets since 2009 for whatever reason. The fixture on the pole can't be the same one I have today because this was taken in July of 09 when my fixture was made in Oct 09)

They had already had the new pole drilled into the ground next to the old pole with mostly everything attached to the new pole already, but the streetlight was still on the ground. I didn't bother pulling over and asking to have the streetlight since I figured that they were just gonna put it back up there, they aren't the ones that are installing the LEDs anyway. The same night coming back home I saw that they actually just electrical tapped the damn thing, arm and all, against the pole and left it there. So what do I do? I freak out, rip it off the electrical tape and stuff the *entire* arm and fixture into my car and take off with it. driving down the road with a little bit of the arm sticking out of my passenger window. I had NO idea that these arms were so massive. I bring it home, uninstall the the lamp from the arm and bring the arm back to the pole. How absolutely no one saw me do this is completely insane. Mind you this was 11:00 at night so that probably helped.

I wouldn't have done this if the town wasn't going LED any time soon, but since all these fixtures have only an unknown amount of time left before scrapping, I HAD to save this one.

...That's one way of getting one of these bad boys. LOL

Congratulations on your first cobrahead. I had an opportunity a couple weeks ago to get an ITT Model 13 that was on the ground. Lineman had replaced a pole behind a shopping center and left the arm with the light on the ground. I was too worried about a security camera on the buildings seeing me or somebody seeing me. I did however ride my bike down to where it was to take the photocontrol lol. The fixture has been missing the door for a while anyways. So I would have only gotten the top housing. I have 60+ cobraheads anyways so I could live without it lol.

Thank you HPS! freaking 60+? If only I had the room for that many Laughing. But, man I would kill for an ITT model 13. there's a couple that I know of (in town), one of which became a miss out on the main road to my surprise, most likely because they would have to drive onto the sidewalk and grass to reach it well. but the other one is on a street that is still due for the change out. Chances are it's not gonna make it but I can't stop it.

I am having a problem with the lamp now. I installed the fixture on my shed, when I tested the fixture I only let it warm up half way then shut it off. When it came nighttime the bulb is only glowing a very dim white while sometimes flashing making a hissing noise and will not progress from there. when I turned it off the afterglow is this neon purple, and letting is sit for a while then trying again does nothing. What the hell did I do the bulb? Did I destroy the starter?

Hmm not sure. All I can say really is you probably need to troubleshoot what the problem is. For example, trying a different lamp in the fixture and see if that fixes the problem. I think it's more than likely the ignitor though.

Nice light. Years ago I got my first pair of streetlights from an intersection that was getting new poles. That was before the LED craze so they fixtures that replaced them were HPS although I think those might have gotten replaced at this point. As for the problem with the light, I'd say try another lamp that you know is new or works to try to narrow it down to either bulb or ballast/ignitor.

@Joe Thanks! It turns out it was the bulb because I bought a new lamp off of Amazon a couple weeks ago and it works good as new. The original bulb was kinda worn down, and it didn't help that I probably stressed out the cathodes (if that's the right term lol) by trying to turn it back on while still warm. Lesson learned!

Nice! NGrid will not transfer equipment they do not own onto new poles. Now that the city of Somerset owns their street lights, the city is responsible for transferring the light to the new pole. The same is done with cities and towns in RI. I've gotten lots of lights (and mounting arms) that way. BTW, if you grab any more, I'd be very interested in the mounting arms if you don't want them! I will gladly trade a fixture for an arm, as I collect the arms too. Cool

And nice that it was just the bulb! I'm not surprised, as it was quite old for a modern HPS lamp judging by the date on the PC. 5 years is about typical for a HPS lamp nowadays.

I'm hoping NGrid does more pole replacements with the HPS fixtures still on them, by now I'd say Somerset is about 75% LED Confused . Many main roads still need to be done. The majority of neighborhoods are LED. Even though the chances are slim now I'll still be looking out, I'll be sure to give you an arm as well! Very Happy

Even with an LED it's till a score. What brand LEDs is Somerset using? And thanks! Cool

I honestly have no idea what make or model it is, I don't think I've seen this type before. I need to take a picture of the one in front of my house at some point soon. OH and btw, I spotted some dead LED fixtures already, one of which only had one dim working LED Laughing

I recently was on 15 headed to New Bedford and saw what looks like Leotek LEDs in Somerset. I'm not surprised they're already failing. Leotek is junk. In 5 years they will have a yellow tinge just like the ones RIDOT installed in 2016. Confused
