City of New York Winko-Matic pedestrian signal

A while back, I acquired this 16" worded pedestrian signal, in which was manufactured by Winko-Matic. Known as the model VI 2L, the pedestrian signal originally saw service somewhere in the city of New York, and it was manufactured in 1989. For its age, it is in amazingly great shape, and it still illuminates well. Within the inside of the pedestrian signal housing, there are two decals that provide general information about the pedestrian signal, not to mention a statement that reads "PROPERTY OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK."

In the early 1980s, New York City was introduced to this kind of pedestrian signal, and it eventually spread throughout the boroughs of the city before the 1990s. After 1999, countless pedestrian signals of this kind, including a handful of others, were retro-fitted with L.E.D. hand and man inserts, and the original Winko-Matic pedestrian signal housings could still be found in service throughout the boroughs today. This pedestrian signal in particular, though, apparently lucked out, so it is safe to assume it was removed from service sometime prior to the L.E.D. conversion.

In any case, this is a great piece of N.Y.C. traffic control memorabilia, and I am fortunate enough to own it.
