Are these 2 65 volt red bulbs in series so if the DONT burns out, the WALK will go out too, avoiding confusion as well as serious injuries by someone crossing on a red WALK
I do not use those for this pedestrian signal. Instead, I use 25W party light bulbs. Though you pretty much answered your own question regarding the purpose of the special "DONT WALK" light bulbs.
When I first received the pedestrian signal in December of 2009, it came with only one of its two original reflectors, in which is the one for the "WALK" section (as you could see here in this picture). The other one for the "DONT" section was missing, so I had a person make a reproduction of one for me.
The only difference, in which is noticeable if you look at this up-close, is the reflection of the lamps. As you could see in the picture, the back of the original reflector is not smooth in appearance than the reproduction above it. With that said, the light from the "WALK" section appears a tad bit different than the light from the "DONT" section. This does not bother me in any way whatsoever; ; however, I may consider to find an original reflector for the top section down the road. Just to be original.
Some of my signals have mismatched reflectors too as some are glass while some are aluminum. Doesn't bother me that much but a full set fo glass reflectors would be nice.
Anyway if you could enlarge the socket hole on the top reflector, you should be able to fit one of these which might look more original than the socket you're currently using.
