if your wondering..YES!..This is a Camera...NOT A SENSOR!...Video Detection Camera for Vehicle Detection....these are not always Present on Signals...especially Older ones...but most newer ones do have these Camera's....Also Captures Gulls Breaking the Wing Flap Limit!

That ain't a camera, that is a sensor, you know, to tell how much traffic there is? If there is no traffic and someone comes on the other road, it makes the lights change. (the side with no traffic red/ side with person green)

Yes it is a Camera.....it is infact a Autoscope AIS High Resolution Traffic Camera....and i am Aware of How Vehicle Detection and Traffic Control Systems Work...in some places they still use Induction Loops.

This camera looks similar like our cameras in traffic lights in Israel. These are designed for document cars that passing a red light. When a driver pass a red light, the camera rotates to his position and track him passing the red light and sends the data to the police.

Those do have camera inside, but it is just for car detection to allow the traffic light to turn green....those are most commonly found for left turns....

But dude, I was told those are NOT for red light.....and we have systems with those...but we have the red light ones on the side of the roads....Before you think it is actually one.....you should do more research because I know someone who was involved in installing those and he told me those does not catch people who passes red lights.....

You should show me a source that it catches those who passes a red light...as far as I know..it doesn't....

Actually jace you ARE right...i went Back and Did some Research and Talked to someone who knows alot more about Signals...and the Autoscope Camera's like this are ONLY for Video detection...not Red Light Captures...now they do Actually make Red Light Camera's And they look like THIS...note the Smaller Housing which is for a Flash Assembly. Smile

Yep we have some of those camera detectors here too, we also have about 10 red light cameras.
Form109   [Aug 15, 2010 at 02:28 PM]
got any pictures of the ones in your area gailgrove?
gailgrove   [Aug 15, 2010 at 02:58 PM]
There the same as the one here just mounted differently, but I'll see if I can get any pictures Wink

This is a video detection camera. It does not record, nor is it capable of recording. I have video detection set up in my collection. Software is used to draw in zones in the video picture so when a vehicle passes in the zone the vehicle call is placed to the cabinet.

A single camera can have multiple zones drawn over each lane. So left turns and straight through movements can be programmed into a single camera head. Four cameras can complete a four way intersection.

I think that our similar cameras in Israel, are simply a traffic camera that transfers the happens in the road/junction to a national/urban control centers.
They're used mainly to detect traffic jams and heavy traffic levels in roads/intesections/junctions and to assist to traffic reporting in the radio and TV.
gailgrove   [Jan 08, 2011 at 09:32 PM]
The ones here are capable of recording, in fact the city works department can access the video from there office.
basilicon89   [Jan 08, 2011 at 10:04 PM]
It's real time video. Yes all video at the intersection it can be transmitted back via coax. Are you sure it's video detection, and not from a Pan/Tilt camera
gailgrove   [Jan 08, 2011 at 10:06 PM]
Yep its video detection, I believe here we have converted mostly to wireless communication.
basilicon89   [Jan 08, 2011 at 10:34 PM]
Got me here! just ran through my Peek software for my VideoTrak equipment and there is a record video function. It's in .MOV format!
streetlight98   [Mar 13, 2012 at 10:17 PM]
In my area, when they install a new traffic signal, they cut into the pavement and stick metal strips in the cut over the lanes. I think it has something to do with magnetic fields???
basilicon89   [Mar 13, 2012 at 10:21 PM]
Thats loop detection. Its old technology but its still used in many places.
rlshieldjr   [Mar 13, 2012 at 10:37 PM]
Our Iteris video detection often produces false calls such as shadows in the through lane, causing a adjacent left to get a green when there is no car.
gailgrove   [Mar 13, 2012 at 10:38 PM]
Here we still use mostly loop detection even on new installs, though more video detectors have been installed recently.
basilicon89   [Mar 14, 2012 at 03:01 AM]
I use Peek's VideoTrak system in my "basement intersection" and theres options to "tune" the processor. It works in a similar way to tuning loop amps, but using software for the video cameras...gotta keep them in an acceptable range. Tune too low and it misses calls, too high and debris, shadows, etc are placing calls. The machine will update the video image every few minutes to make sure nothing odd places false calls.

My area is mostly loop detection but video detector are occasionally used. Toronto even has some odd microwave detectors in use.
