All similar. Actually the guts on some internal parts using the McCain programmable signal are badged "3M".. irony at it's finest, i guess. McCain has the head fabricated in their Mexico facility and it's severely cheapened out as far as quality is concerened.
The back door on the McCain version is nothing more than a re-tooled 8 inch housing. The front door and visor are standard McCain 12 inch. The whole concept of optical tape programmability, the lens design (down to the focal length), the tilt pins, the usage of a PAR 150Watt Incandescent bulbs, the photocells, all are direct copies of 3M.
Both signals are extremely high maintenance, extremely expensive, and completely obsolete. Intelight (formerly "OptiSoft") makes a programmable signal thats all LED using an electronically programmable steerable beam array.
