EOL GE F40
One of those tubes has reached end-of-life. Think it's the older F40DX? No! It's still running great but the newer F40SP65/ECO doesn't start anymore in my F40 shoplight, but it still starts on one of my Sylvania GTE troffers... weird.

That F40SP65 was already heavily used when I got it, but since it was not *completely* spent... xD The replacement tube is a brand new Sylvania F40DX from 2009 by the way.

I have that same shoplight. I'm pretty sure the 'ballast' actually just has 2 of whats in one of those crappy 'Lights Of America' inside (so preheat + electronic starter-thingie)

I think this one was T8 originally but he stuck a F40/RS ballast in there...
xmaslightguy   [Mar 13, 2013 at 04:40 AM]
could be a newer version than the one I have...it was T12 only

Maybe this one was...I know he was saying it had an electronic ballast with EOL protection...

That's right! It had a F32T8 electronic ballast. Back when I converted it I had no other 4 foot fixture. So if it was today the fixture would've stayed F32T8, at least until the ballast fails xD

But you could've run F40 and F34 lamps on that ballast anyway as well...

I too find myself seeing if a 'dead' lamp will work on another fixture, to squeeze some more life out of it. Ultimately it ends up on my electronic F40 Universal with 800 punishing OCV's, destroying the rest of the cathode until the arc burns through the glass and lets air in.
