Moar ballasts!
I wouldn't like to see all those non-working ballast go to waste... so I display them on my workbench! Some ballasts are still waiting to be displayed, like the very late pre-CGE ballast under the Philips-Advance ballast.

Oh, and that huge transformer is a MOT from Advance Transformers! Yup!

Looking good and clever way to display it!

Wow you have a lot of CGE ballasts in your display, Nice job!

Thanks! ^__^ And I still have a couple more to come!

The all black ballast is also a GE BTW, it's a very interesting stamped ballast from 1960! Still works but it shoots 85V to ground... Sad

Vince ever gonna put those MOT's in action?
TiCoune66   [Dec 23, 2010 at 10:40 PM]
Well not that Advance, it's vintage! But I will convert one of my MOTs into a "homemade CWI ballast" for my arc light.
Form109   [Dec 24, 2010 at 01:07 AM]
how will you do that vince?...most MOT's don't seem to self-regulate too well.
TiCoune66   [Dec 24, 2010 at 01:41 AM]
Easy, I join two MOT primaries in one core! I will also use a few 0.81uF caps in parallel (the caps in parallel together, but in series with the load).

or you could do what i did once...use a Sufficently rated 120-240 Transformer....feed 120 into the 240 Side and connect the 120 side to the transformer, lowered the current enough to prevent the breaker (15A) from tripping.

Well, here's the thing: it goes further than experimenting here Wink I want to build an arc light usable as an everyday light, so I need a ballast that can run on its own.
