Yeah its electrically the same as the F17T8, but these are supposed to work better on preheat, haven't noticed a difference though

I don't really mind the 18w T8s, they're the international equivalent of the F17T8s used here and plus they're usually used with preheat
Besides you can get them in North America too, they're used as appliance lamps here.

18W have been around for years here, they are a good lamp. The F17T8 is not at all seen. These replace a 600mm 20W T12 tube with no problems at all. They only have a problem on RS ballasts, which are not that common at all.

What I've wondered what this: A 48'' long T12 lamp is 40W. Half of that length (24") is half the wattage (20W). So if a 48'' long T8 is 32W, why is a T8 lamp, 24" long, 27W? Theoretically, shouldn't a 24" T8 lamp be 16W or a 48'' T8 be 34W?
