Would The Older Sylvania MV Please Stand Up.
Hmm having some date code trouble with this Sylvania cleartop on the left, since the one on the right should date to March 1981 (SR 03) and has a newer angled insulator but the one on the left has a bigger date code (SR 008) but has a rounded insulator which older lamps have.

Also the date code on the left one is on a metal tag instead of on the stem press. The internals and the etches are basically the same except the '81 one had R 03 on it while the other only has R on it.

I'm thinking the older one is on the left, but I guess that doesn't help you at all. Embarrassed Laughing

The March 1981 lamp only has one zero? (SR 03). If so, that could mean there's something different.

My guess is that the lamp with SR008 date code could have been made with a reversed date code system, meaning it was made in March 1980. Since they have a very similar internal construction, the lamp with a round insulator is logically older.

Hmm, yeah the other one does have a code of SR 03 on the etch but a code of SR3 on the stem press. I wonder why they switched the date code format since I was under the impression that they just rolled over ever 10 years.
