yeah i've heard the 175W lamps run the longest. I think the reason for the lamps lasting so long in NEMA heads is that the lamp has excellent air circulation. Even an Alto can make it a good three to four years in one of those. 100W MV lamps last a good long time too but they dim faster and to more of an extent then 175W lamps or other higher wattages. The 100W lamps REALLY dim out. I find that 400W mercs tend to just go out before they get really dim. I've seen 100 and 175W mercs here that have dayburner probably longer than i've been around and they still go yet dim but 400W mercs seem to just die by the time they're super dimmed out.

the 1KW lamps seem to dim out when they age, matter of fact there's a building that has 2 shining from the roof for as long as i can remember, they are still very dim but work

Yeah, I've seen some pretty dimmed out 100w lamps in some older building in recessed can lights. I haven't seen any dimmed out 1kW lamps though as the parking lots here that use em still relamp them before they get too dim.

yeah there are 1000W MV flood lights around here that are about as bright as 400W mercs. NGrid won't relamp them, only new PCs. When the lamp dies it gets replaced with a 400W HPS flood light. I don't know what would happen if i were to report one as dim since i've never done so because i didn't want to chance it getting replaced.

1kW MV flood lights are very rare here and I think I've only seen them on dealerships before.

1000W MV floodlights are the most common type of MV flood light here since they're the only ones that weren't all replaced. Almost all of the 400W MV flood lights were replaced in the 90s changeout with 400W HPS floods, some with 250W HPS floods.

Ahh, PAL lights are pretty rare here so I don't think they ever had 1kW MV floods.

Here all the lights are payed for by the city. For some reason in RI, NGrid only leases lights to the municipality so technically there are no private area lights here either. if there's a flood light owned by NGrid lighting a strip mall, it's payed for by the city.

I believe they're still a couple dozen PAL lights left here but I don't think they install any new ones. (Apparently the government made the utilities stop as PAL lighting is not a "energy service") Most of the PAL lights here are 175w mercury bracket fixtures or some old 50s looking round flood with a exposed 175w lamp and remote ballast.

Hmm interesting. RI probably passed something preventing PAL lights too since on NGrid's website, all the other states they service have PALight options except RI.

Yeah, I think the rental fee is just for the light rental as they said electricity was a separate charge.

same here with NGrid. there's a rental fee and kWh fee but the rental fee still goes up with wattage here and floodlights are a lot more than cobraheads too.

Ahh, I think some utilities had a all inclusive monthly fee instead of separate fees though. I guess in my area which is usually urban and suburban PA lights aren't really needed except for stores.

here car dealerships tend to have PAL 1000W MV floods along the road. The dealership lights would all shut off and the floods would run dusk to dawn instead of only some dealership lights shutting off. A lot of the floods are "red capped" as NGrid calls it (shut off via open cap) though and some of the dealership lights do stay on all night.

Ahh over here dealerships have 320w-1000w MH shoeboxes and they just leave a couple on as security lights.

the cadilliac and mercedes dealers here have T5 HO fixtures lighting the lots..it looks great

I think a few dealerships here use T5HO fixtures too. Most of them are still MH but the ones that are switching seem to all be using LEDs now lately. The T5HO fixtures look a lot better at night though than the LEDs. It'd be nice to see the T5HOs used as street lights but I don't ever see that happening.

Ahh, I don't think I've seen a T5HO fixture too, I think they might look nice retrofitted in a old T12 HO/VHO light too.
