Glow-Lux/Afterglow F32T8's
You know how some lamps give a dim glow after being turned off? Here's some actually designed to glow after running!

Its a Glow-Lux/Afterglow lamp. When on just a plain 5000k thing (top image), but when you turn them off, the cool-ness really shows...they glow a green-blue color (bottom image). They work on the same principle that "glow in the dark" toys & such do...

These are slightly thicker than a normal T8..really closer a T9 in size

Why do they glow? Shocked These are cool lamps! Cool Talk about energy efficient lighting lol. Laughing

these were meant to be a substitute for the emergency back-up ballasts, they use the same technology as those glow in the dark stickers, so yeah pretty cool! Cool

Yep they were meant to use in place of emergency ballast'ed fixtures (quite a bit dimmer though...but the glass bits would still glow if the lamp got broken - say in an earthquake or bomb)

These aren't made anymore, not sure the company even exists, but there is another one that makes an equivalent...

Can a lamp run off a normal ballast and an emergency ballast or no? Do emergency fluorescent ballasts run lamps at the same ballast factor as a standard grid-powered ballast?
xmaslightguy   [Jan 20, 2013 at 05:00 PM]
Yep.. the emergency ballast connects inbetween the standard (grid-powered) ballast and the lamps. When power is lost, the emergency takes over lighting the same lamps (has relays in it to prevent backfeeding into the standard ballast). Brightness is something less than 50% of a LPF.

I've got a couple fixtures with them, I can take a pic of the insides if you want to see (won't really show how its all wired though)

Do they wire like a normal ballast? Also, if the light is on a switch and it's turned off, is there a separete circut to prevent it from coming on?

You disconnect the standard ballast's outputs (red/blue) from the lampholders, and connect them to inputs on the emergency. Then connect the emergency's outputs to the lampholders (wireing varies by model, some only the blue goes 'through' emergency, some its both red & blue)

Then if its on a switch, you just run 2 'hot' wires...switched for the standard ballast / unswitched for the emergency
