I'd say the box houses a transformer which converts 347 volts down to 120 for the receptacle, I know of two malls that have them on every pole.

Ahh thanks, I've noticed most newer poles have a recessed outlet and a hidden transformer (or maybe a 120v line).

There are either Powerlite/Sylvania or Westinghouse versions of these with 1000 watt MV in them. In the old Richardson Square Mall parkinglot.

It looks trippy from this view haha. Besides the bulb, upon glance it looks like the lens is on it.
