McGraw Edison Merc
Another rare find in the GTA, a mercury McGraw Edison Unidor 150. HPS ones were common before the LED changeout but it's a extra treat to find a mercury version. Must be older one too as there's no NEMA tag on it. Shocked Would love to track one of these down. They were never used anywhere in RI that I'm aware of. Not a fan of the Unidor 400s though... And that stop sign looks obnoxiously large in the streetview link. Laughing

Same here I know of 3 more MV ones in use also in northern York Region and I think Scarborough has some factory HPS ones.

Yeah, must be one of those 4'x4' stop signs. Laughing

The Unidors are really unique lights but I've always liked the Unistyles way more. Narragansett Electric used a decent number of the Unistyles in 100 and 175W MV here. I own a restored 175W MH/MV one I got in a trade with Tony and more recently, got an original off-the-pole 100W MV 240V w/ 120V PC from Steve (member slz). The OEM ballasts in those Unistyles are tiny! The 100W MV choke is the size of a modern day yardblaster ballast. Shocked Apparently it's well made though since it survived roughly 50 years of dusk to dawn use.

Before everything got LED'd there were a small of Unistyles here, both the small and medium ones. Oddly I never seen any large installs of them and since they were HPS I guess they were MV refurbs that got reinstalled elsewhere. This is probably the largest installation of them I know of.

Yeah I'm not surprised a MV choke lasted so long, they probably used the same core as the 175W ones so the 100w one ran cooler and chokes are pretty simple to begin with. Never did get why they didn't catch on for things like 277v lighting.
