MTO did this conversion on part of the 401 recently. They replaced the existing cobras with highmast fixtures...no idea why but the highmast fixtures are still HPS.
This has been the weirdest thing Ive seen done by MTO ever! Theres a cluster with a bunch on wooden poles with tapered e arms lighting up nothing sideways. I think its for some project over the etobicoke creek? I don't particularly like seeing these on truss fixtures lol.
Wow weird! The highmasts look *kinda* cool on the truss arms. Would be nice to see some B2215s magically pop up on them though. Really weird they didn't go LED!
Some highmasts just past the background of the pic are LED. MTO has implemented some LED lighting in some places. In Fort Erie they replaced all the old truss lights with Cooper NVN LEDs.
Another portion on the Garden skyway bridge they used Philip hadco RX2's on the truss lights.
Yeah I wonder why the MTO suddenly decided to convert a few poles to highmast fixtures. I was wondering why they didn't go LED too, like Zack mentioned there's a few test fixtures a bit east from where that picture was taken.
As for other MTO LEDs, the 412 and the new part of the 407 which opened in 2016 are mostly LED lit. They also converted the Conestoga Expressway in Waterloo to LED as part of a overall freeway rehab project.
It seems the MTO isn't that consistent with their LED conversions, they realigned one of the Highway 7/404 onramps and installed HPS OVFs.
Oh look, I passed this area about a year ago on my new England Endeavor. Does this link look familiar Joe? Seems the same place is backed up when I was there last year. Is that sign that I see (the one in front) new? Cause it looks so. The one in my pic is the one further down the road on the non express lanes.
And yeah that is interesting, I guess that is what they wanted to use? I have seen getups like this in the US before. I think wisconsin had some that were like this if I recall. It's interesting though. I guess it's the fixtures they had at the time?
Yeah it does, you're in the collector lanes a bit east from where my pic was taken. Anyway I think the sign over the express lanes is from 2010 or 2011 and have colour support and the one over the collector lanes are a bit older and are amber only.
The highway narrows to 4 lanes at the 427 for through traffic so there's always a bit of a back up of cars near this section.
I want to know what they are doing at the etobicoke creek to need to change out all that equipment lol. What really confuses me is why the truss lights got mounted sideways over the Creek.
