Yup, they took the existing pole and rotated it 90 degrees so that the arms are parallel to the road. There's also some temporary wooden poles that got added to. Note they also replaced the cobras with high fixtures again.
Yeah this is really ugly and I hope its temporary. The thing is they can't add highmasts from Dixie to over the Creek bridge because of the Airport, maybe this is the alternative...
Yeah I'm hoping this oddball setup is temporary and will go away once the construction is finished. The 401 near Bathurst also had a odd sideways temporary setup in summer 2016. I wonder why the highmasts too.
Yeah parts of the 427, 401, and 404 still have conventional lighting because of a nearby airport.
Wow didn't know about the 401 and Bathurst sideways setup. Maybe they do it for digging crews so they don't need to worry about hitting the arms.
Seems just the 401 still has the truss lights along the airport. I see the 427 just has a couple left on the off ramp and on ramp at Dixon Rd. The truss lights on the 427 and 409 are gone too. They left These 2 concrete truss lights but they don't light at night so I think they are already disconnected.
Yeah the 401 around Bathurst had sideways dual upsweep arms on wooden poles!
I figured some highmast lights on low truss arms are because they need more light due to some poles temporarily removed. I recall them being pretty bright to drive under.
I haven't seen them at night yet but I wonder if they used the highmasts so they could up the wattage to 750w or even 1kW HPS. Highmasts are probably easier to source than the equivalent cobrahead. I think only AEL still makes cobras for 1kW HPS.
