Light Poles? Errrr....
Here's another set of reproduction "ER" light poles put up by the MTO when they widened this section of the QEW in 2009. The original "ER" poles were short and had more curved arms and used incandescent gumball lumes. They are getting harder to find...only Hwy. 420 still has them(another set in Mississauga was removed in early '09).

Here's how the original poles looked like:

Yeah the repro poles look a bit too tall and I think would look better if they used gumballs instead.

What does "ER" mean?
gailgrove   [Dec 04, 2011 at 08:05 PM]
I'm guessing "Elizabeth Route" but I'm not positive as the highway is called the QEW (Queen Elizabeth Way).
Edit: It means "Elizabeth Regina" - See some information about the poles here!

Interesting PDF, those ER poles in there are the ones that was removed in early 2009.

Emergency Room Poles. Laughing

Interesting. Thanks for the info. Smile I personally like the look of the older poles. Where the pole meets the mast, the older poles curved away from the road. On the new ER poles, the straight section doesn't curve away from the road.

Yeah I like this style of pole better, looks more like the orignals.
GullWhiz   [Jan 30, 2012 at 12:42 AM]
The older ER area is smaller than the newer too
streetlight98   [Mar 08, 2012 at 11:39 PM]
How come most reproductions don't match the older model? Is it due to design infringments or is it just the reproduction was "modernized"?
gailgrove   [Mar 08, 2012 at 11:45 PM]
I'm guessing they are slightly different to match modern standards, that curve at the top probably wouldn't be approved anymore.
streetlight98   [Mar 08, 2012 at 11:46 PM]
Is there a reason why they don't allow broader curves?
joe_347V   [Mar 09, 2012 at 12:16 AM]
I'm not sure about the curve, but I know they changed the height to better match the current MTO poles.

They butchered the "E" in the new pole logo Rolling Eyes
joe_347V   [Aug 12, 2015 at 06:54 AM]
Yeah and it seems like there's at least two different variations of ER poles. The ones along Highway 420 have a different design.
