aww. Up in northwestern RI there's a little co-op in one town (Burrillville, RI) and it's called the Pascoag Utility District. They're supplied by NGrid but are idependant and are community-owned. They bought a small section of Narragansett Electric at the same time NGrid took over the rest of RI. In the 90s when they switched to HPS, they used DuraStar 2000s in 50W HPS (they have the older Thomas and Betts NEMA tags, not the newer AEL ones). For a while they also used OVZs and OVHs then they switched to drop lens 115s.
Now though they're installing LEDs (made by AEL). The AEL LED lights don't look too bad. they're pretty good looking for an LED light. Brightness wise they're comparable to a 50W HPS but distribution wise the seem to throw and awful lot of light in front of the light instead of any other direction. Fortunatly, the only lights they replaced were DuraStars. I guess it was just a (good) coincidence that the only lights removed were Duras lol. There's one Narragansett Electric MV light that PUD didn't replace: it's some sort of power bracket type light in someone's driveway. There's also a late 70s to early 80s HPS M-250R1 with a FCO glass, though I don't know if it was originally FCO...
Looks like I was right about the photocell thing though.
I believe this Unistyle 400 along with this one is still in service.
