75W ceramic white coated for photo enlargers. Note etch on side of bulb as usually burned "Base Up" thus preventing interference with photo being enlarged. Life listed as 65 hours, has aprox color temp 3200K.
Well that's basically what halogens are. They're around 3200K I think and they're also the same CRI as incandescents. It's a noticeable difference but I actually prefer the higher kelvin light. It's crisper and more lively IMO. Normal soft white incandescents are kinda drab IMO (though they're lively compared to a warm white or "soft white" CFL...)
Yeah I did notice that feature about the halogen GLS lamps...so much whiter! (The 72w GEs I had were rated at 3000K!). It was a much nicer light than a 3000K fluorescent, though. And yeah incandescents look better than CFLs (2700K ones anyway, daylight CFLs look better than incans to me anyway) any day of the week. While I find 2700K does a "good enough" job of imitating an incandescent I can still instantly tell, for example in a fixture with an opaque glass globe, if it's an incandescent or a CFL.
I really miss the (of course nowadays discontinued) GE "Reveal" incandescents, they made wood look much nicer. However their light was a little too pinkish...I can picture it as I type...I grew up around those lamps and remember them well.
I have one W reveal left (from China) on a shelf here that wasn't put into use. The other three from the box all lived very short lives before dying (one was dead right out of the box i think)
Yeah the Chinese ones did have really short lives, I remember that too! I had one die in about 10 minutes, though it was due to air poisoning (filament burned up and smoked up the inside of the bulb).
Ah I had a GE halogen die in about a half hour. I installed it and it worked. I left it on (this was at my grandparents a year or two ago) and came back a couple minutes later and swore it was dimmer. I came back into the kitchen after that and the filament was glowing a deep orange color but wasn't giving off any usable light. Must've been a bad seal on the capsule.
