A little hard to see what kind of thumb latch.....and is it dark silver or grey or even unpainted in color? Looks grey.....if it has a button on the front with an added tab to make it easier to open..its a later version from mid to 1960s...if it has a button without a tab...then its the earlier 60s....also what color is the reflector rubber gasket? The orange ones are kinda rare and older.

See more pictures of it HERE.

Okay it is an older one...it does NOT have the tab...which makes it easier to open....but that little small "lock thing" I saw in his pic was just a custom addition...LOL....the ones with the tabs looked like this you can see the extra metal on the front of the button here which makes it easier to push since the spring of the push button is actually pretty strong!!!...that's what the later versions has....Willis has the earlier version that did not have a tab on the front.

By the way Willis...where did you get the name "Dayburner"?
Nevada Willis   [Aug 31, 2010 at 09:02 PM]
Dayburners are what we used to call these things although that actually may have been a Westinghouse design name now that I think of it. If the name is misapplied I'll just call it a cobra head!

What's the date code on this oldie? (It should be on the foil nameplate titled "MERCURY LUMINAIRE" in the top left area.
