fiberglass pole or what?
joe_347V   [Dec 29, 2011 at 12:15 AM]
Not exactly in my area but it is the closest MV I know of that's left. It's around half an hour away from where I am.

@Jace galvanized steel sectional poles, here's the daytime shot.
Antstar85   [Dec 29, 2011 at 12:16 AM]
just wait untill were saying this about HPS in like 15 years.
streetlight98   [Dec 29, 2011 at 12:43 AM]
Yeah. It's gonna be a sad day when all the HPS disapear. now that all this LED stuff is going on outside RI, I'm appreciating all those M-250R2s and other HPS around here and of course those beloved MVs left here. Cool plus, a good portion of the M-250R2s here are the flatbottom 1993 version so those are special. Smile
GullWhiz   [Dec 29, 2011 at 12:44 AM]
I will admit it will not be the happiest day for ALL HPS to disappear....although I would like to reduce HPS count...but not completely kill them over! In fact I think balance ALL light sources evenly!
joe_347V   [Dec 29, 2011 at 12:50 AM]
Same here, I wish CMH would become more popular for streetlighting but HPS still has it's use.
streetlight98   [Dec 29, 2011 at 12:51 AM]
Yeah. It wouldn't be so bad if there was a way to keep the old fixtures. I don't like that fixtures which have been in service only a few months are going to be replaced. I agree with the balence of light sources, but it's not economical. IMO, by the time all the LEDs are put up and all the HPS, MV, MH, etc is gone (hopefully that'll NEVER happen) the LEDs will be out of date and it'll be time to change out all the fixtures again anyways. Sad
Antstar85   [Dec 29, 2011 at 01:02 AM]
Just wait till we're saying this about LED in 40 years! LOL Razz
GullWhiz   [Dec 29, 2011 at 01:02 AM]
Methane-Vapor?
streetlight98   [Dec 29, 2011 at 01:10 AM]
Agh! I'll still be using my magnetic T12 and mercury vapor and incandescent lights in forty years! Razz I'll be 53 almost 54 in 40 years. O_O
Antstar85   [Dec 29, 2011 at 01:17 AM]
I'll be 67 complaining about how the methane vapor light in front of my condo shines into my bedroom.
streetlight98   [Dec 29, 2011 at 01:29 AM]
Laughing i believe Jace would be 70. That's one old seagull! Razz By then we should all have our own solar panels and wind turbines so we won't need to save energy.

Rhode Island was actually going to install several off-shore wind turbines, but people voted against it saying it would "ruin our beautiful shoreline". Confused for one thing, it would most likely be in a seculded area where people can't see them anyways, but oh well. Rolling Eyes
UPDATE:
here's an article on it Apparently it's still being considered...
GullWhiz   [Dec 29, 2011 at 01:41 AM]
Actually in 40 years I would be 68...what made you think I would be 70?
streetlight98   [Dec 29, 2011 at 01:45 AM]
Because you told me "The MV lamp I have for you is a Westinghouse BT-25 lamp from July 1982, Just one year and 3 months older than I am!!!" so i did the math:
2012 - 1982 = 30
30 + 40 = 70

I guess I made an error somwhere... Embarrassed
GullWhiz   [Dec 29, 2011 at 01:51 AM]
I was born in the very late 1983...... July 1982 + 3 months = October 1982 + 1 year = October 1983

Today is December 2011, not 2012! So October is 2 months away from December so October 2011 - October 1983 + 2 months = I am 28 years and 2 months old!
streetlight98   [Dec 29, 2011 at 02:01 AM]
Ahh. Okay. Embarrassed I'm 13 years, 7 months, and 22 days old. Laughing
GullWhiz   [Dec 29, 2011 at 02:13 AM]
As of 12/28/2011 at 9:13 PM I am EXACTLY 14,844,037 minutes old

Exactly what Month, Day, Year, Hour and Minute was I born in? Shocked
don   [Dec 30, 2011 at 12:17 AM]
If RI installs those wind turbines, it will be trouble for all of those gulls. "flap flap flap squawk! chop chop chop...."
joe_347V   [Dec 30, 2011 at 12:17 AM]
Gull choppers Shocked Laughing
streetlight98   [Dec 30, 2011 at 01:10 AM]
LOL Don. Laughing RI wants to be the first US state with an off shore wind farm, and it will happen if they decide to go with it. One minute they say "yes", the next "no".
