HPS vs MH Highmasts
Here's a pic showing a comparison between the HPS highmasts that's used on the freeway and some MH highmasts used in a parking lot. I will try to make my version which a good place is in Southern Baltimore at I-95....

Oh yeah I know where that is.

Yep, 401 and Weston road looking east Very Happy

The MH ones are defenatly brighter.
gailgrove   [Feb 27, 2011 at 12:13 AM]
No they are not, a 1KW MH lamp gives out 110,000 lumens and a 1KW HPS gives out 140,000 lumens, this picture doesn't show how bright they are any ways Wink

in lumen terms its brighter...but white light looks brighter to me in person, even if the orange light source produces more lumens.

Yep Niall is right about the pic, it's a bit dimmer than usual because I had the camera at a lower exposure than normal so I could take the pic in low light without that much blurring.

I checked the original file and the pic was apparently taken at around 5:00 pm but it was a pretty cloudly day though.

But I agree with Devonte too, white light sources seem to be brighter to me in person too than a orange light source with the same lumens.

Yes it is more visible in white color....I myself would know cuz I live near I-95 which has miles and miles of MH highmasts and some HPS highmast and I can see!

Photometrically, MH is more efficient, but in raw lumens, HPS wins out. The utilities know that, they just hide it becuse HPS is cheaper to buy. Confused
