Yup, only Hawaii is more expensive than the republic of kalifornia.
joe_347V   [Apr 23, 2012 at 05:52 PM]
Well, and Kanada too if it counts. Razz
gailgrove   [Apr 23, 2012 at 05:52 PM]
Consider yourselves lucky! Here gas is around $1.30 a litre (or $4.81 a gallon) a few weeks back it was close to $1.40 a litre (or around $5.18 a gallon) Shocked

@Niall: Is this in Canadian Dollars? Confused
f36t8   [Apr 23, 2012 at 06:46 PM]
Here it is slightly over 15 SEK per l, which is around 2.22 USD per l, or 8.40 USD per US gallon. I still think it is too cheap.
GullWhiz   [Apr 23, 2012 at 07:21 PM]
8.40 per gallon!!! HOW SHOCKING! Shocked In 1990 where I lived it was only 99 cents per gallon....simply hand the cashier 15 bucks to FILL up the car!
gailgrove   [Apr 23, 2012 at 08:16 PM]
@rjluna2 Yes, but the Canadian and American dollar are at parity, so it's the same thing. Wink
streetlight98   [Apr 23, 2012 at 08:53 PM]
Ouch! here it's gone from $3.47 back in October to currently $3.89 at the local HESS station. The nearest shell to me just broke the $4 mark last Thursday. Shell is the most expensive around here with BP close behind.
rjluna2   [Apr 23, 2012 at 09:01 PM]
@Niall: According to the Yahoo! exchange rate, it is CDN$ 0.991 to the US$ 1.00 Smile
gailgrove   [Apr 23, 2012 at 09:06 PM]
Yeah, pretty close, it changes every day, some days it will be higher, others lower.
streetlight98   [Apr 23, 2012 at 09:41 PM]
What a rip-off that everything costs more in Canada when Canadian currency is actually becoming worth more than the USD. Confused
gailgrove   [Apr 23, 2012 at 09:53 PM]
No kidding, many things are coming down in price thankfully. One thing that really irks me about gas prices here is that a lot of the oil comes from Canada, is sold to the US and refined, and then sold back to us at a higher price, that is part of the problem. Rolling Eyes

This station is about 10c higher than ARCO (BP). Also as a kid in the 60s-70s that Canada had 5 quart "Imperial Gallons" when visiting, any one hear of that. I support the XL pipeline to bring oil from Canada tar sands to the US, but we have too many defective politicians that are impeading it.

at jace i rememer gas was in dirt cheap in 1999-.2000 63 cent a gallon the cheapest i ever seen. I was like wow just over 10 bucks filled up the truck! I would say 2002 started to get crazy then the things started going the other way around nothing but up and up.
rjluna2   [Apr 27, 2012 at 12:18 PM]
My first experience with the gas price was back in the late 1970's where I found the cheapest gas price was 48.9 US cent per US gallon Smile I was a teenager back then.

Kind of an old topic, but i remember a few years ago the gas prices dropped insanely around here to just around two bucks a gallon after a max out close to four bucks a gallon. According to www.rhodeislandgasprices.com, the lowest gas price here is $3.41 and the highest is $4.19 (the second highest is $3.69, big drop). The rural areas here (so bascially the southern half of the state) has the higher gas prices. Shell, CITCO, and Mobile are the most expensive here and HESS is the cheapest big chain. Gas is cheaper in more populous areas, likely due to there being a more concentrated number of gas stations in competition.

There's a Gulf and Mobile station next to each other on Plainfield Pike on the Johnston/Cranston line near me and both have the same price ($3.48 ) but in small wiriting under the Mobile price it says CASH ONLY PRICE. If you use a credit card it's a full ten cents more per gallon so $3.58 instead of $3.48 and the gas stations are right next to each other! Yet most people look only at the largely displayed price and not the small CASH ONLY PRICE beneath it. And the credit card price isn't even on the sign, they only display it on the pumps. Very deceiving if you don't pay very close attention!
