The beautiful result:
Here's the 1973 shoplight painted as good as new inside and out. Everything except the ballast (, which works perfect,) could pass off as brand new. I had to replace the sockets since I broke all but one bringing it home on my bike. I replaced the screws on the endplates and reflector just to make the light look newer and I couldn't be happier with the result.

Thanks guys! I worked hard on this guy. The old paint was smooth, but it was discolored and dull. Now it has a nice coat of gloss white enamel paint. Very Happy This is by far the bast restoration i've done. I plan to restore the barn style light again since the silver paint is chipping since it was close to 100*F with oppressive humidity when i painted it. This time i'll paint the outside black and the inside of the barn light white.

Thanks Darren. Cool BTW, guys I noticed after only about two minutes, i felt the electrode areas of the lamps and nearly burned myself. Shocked Is thay normal for the lamps to be that in under five minutes? Neutral It's only hot on two electrodes; the other two are only moderatly warm. i'll post a diagram...

Yeah, sans the new paint when I got my Sears shoplight with the GE BonusLine ballast I had the same thought as when seeing this pic: This is one nice fixture!

Yeah. Even if a fluorescent fixture doesn't look like it needs new paint, it amazing how much better it looks after it gets new paint. Also if you use gloss enamel paint (which msot spay paint is enamel) it is more durable so it better protects against rust plus it won't scratch as easy.

I need to do that to my (currently) rusty, dirty, peeling, ugly Sears shoplight...

LOL yeah you'll love it so much more when it's not all grimey anymore. I've found some lights smell from where they were before and the only way to get rid of that smell is to repaint it and "cover up" that smell.

Hmm I've never had that issue but some of my fixtures just look ugly! Laughing

Thanks! I believe I showed you this light when you had visited. It's mounted in my boiler room (the door with the slots/vents on it if you've got a really good memory lol)
