General Electric F40T12 Preheat Ballast
I got two, NOS. Coded "WB" or September 1987. They both work, naturally. I was delighted to find that they have full-lengh blue leads, though the white and black leads could've been a little longer, as the white has to make it to the socket, though as long as the ballast is mounted close to one socket, the blue lead easily reached the other. both have their original boxes too! One will go in the light from my grandpa's shop (after it is replaced) and the other will remain NOS.

Nice! So you got a bad ballast in a fixture from your grandpa's shop and this is the replacement ?

Thanks! Well, I'm not sure if the ballast was bad, but the cloth wires were brittle to the point of no return. I cut the leads short to the old ballast but kept it. Interestingly it wasn't tarred, the contents were simply enclosed in the case and are loose inside. The fixture is original to the shop, which was built in 1948.

Wow yeah best to not use it! And something could short out since its all loose in the case

Nice ballast! I've been thinking of getting a pair for myself too. Razz

Since you old ballast is unpotted, I would try taking it apart to put new wires on and to remove the PCB cap.

I kinda want to leave the old ballast original though. Go for getting yourself a pair! I'm pretty sure they'll be the same age as mine too seeing it's the same lot! Odd how i ordered the CdS photoresistors a while before the ballasts and i still haven't gotten the photoresistors yet. Neutral
