Doghouse in California? I thought they were non-existent in CA like it is non-existent in Illinois...We got a ton of dog houses here though

I know doghouse lights were non-existent in PA in my area until 1989.

Doghouse lights became popular in southern California starting in the 1990's.

Doghouse lights were used for a partial left turn signal (protected left turn on arrow, permitted left turn on green dot or something); they did not have red arrows.

before then, they exclusively used exclusive left turn signals (which had red left arrows_)

Another view, I believe this was on Christmas Day, as traffic appears light. I think the signal now has a longer arm with a doghouse.
