is that a glass refractor?
gmercury2000   [Mar 26, 2011 at 04:25 AM]
Nope all our refractors are plastic! At least for the NEMA's
LilCinnamon   [Mar 26, 2011 at 08:05 AM]
This looks like the NEMA Jace sent to me. xD Prolly is the exact same model.

Refractor looks the same too.

Yup. I have a few of these. These are great fixtures, in 3 years I have only cganged out about 3-4 of these due to bad ballasts
gailgrove   [Mar 26, 2011 at 03:07 PM]
Is that how you got your few of them? You should post some more pictures of your fixture collection Very Happy
gmercury2000   [Mar 26, 2011 at 04:18 PM]
lol no, at work we get a release form for old equipment. Usually ones that were taken down due to upgrades!
mercuryvaporrocks   [Mar 26, 2011 at 04:26 PM]
Was this light removed?
gmercury2000   [Mar 26, 2011 at 05:52 PM]
Nope this one's still in service! I actually went past it about a week ago and it's still going strong!
streetlight98   [May 10, 2013 at 02:34 AM]
man i'd love to find a PC like that. Cool
gmercury2000   [Apr 27, 2015 at 09:41 PM]
Sadly there aren't many of them left around here. Once contractors went through most of what remained was changed. Luckily I was able to save most of them. Though I occasionally find some oldies they are for the most part gone.
streetlight98   [Apr 28, 2015 at 01:43 AM]
Contractors? Did the city take over ownership of the lights and then contract the maintenance out to private companies? Did they install HPS ones in their place or use cobraheads or LEDs? The one Jace sent me will remain safe in my collection. Cool Looks great with the new coat of hammered silver paint like these originally had.

Same here, especially outdoor slimlines! Problem with those is when people put 60w energy saver lamps in.
Same in CA, remember that one gas station cum muffler shop in Atascadero we streetviewed Mike?
gmercury2000   [Apr 28, 2015 at 03:07 AM]
No, we have contractors that basically go through and relamp and pc all the street lights. Luckily where this is located is still mostly mercs. We still do the service calls for outages. It's a routine maintenance that's required.
streetlight98   [Apr 28, 2015 at 03:49 AM]
Yep I remember that one Andy. Smile

Ah so they won't relamp these? Do they relamp and PC lights even if they work? Here they tend to replace lamps and PCs together but I've noticed cases where the old PC is left in place (since the FP Sun-Tech PCs they're using suck in plain English).
gmercury2000   [Apr 28, 2015 at 05:24 AM]
Yup they still relamp these. If the pc is less than 7 years they generally dont. They relamp them if they work as the lamps are about 4 years old by the time they come around again so they have dimmed out a good bit. We used sun techs temp and were horrible. Now we use alr brand. Their decent but by far not the best.
streetlight98   [Apr 28, 2015 at 11:33 AM]
Ah I see. Here they don't do scheduled maintenance. Only if the light is reported as needing it (though I think they might have some crews go around looking for lights to self-report). Here they have no regard for the age of the PC. There was a light near me that was a dayburner and they gave it a new PC (kept the lamp) and literally a week or two later the lamp started cycling and they replaced the lamp and PC again, as the PC was a darker color than before. The darker ones are the crappy ones around here too (either a very dark gray or black).

When did you use the Sun-Techs? They weren't too bad until around 2012/2013 but boy they're terrible now. Ripley is good stuff but premium prices too. I personally like DTL best. They're great quality and inexpensive. Lots of ordering options too. I don't have too many ALRs so I can't really judge them lol.
gmercury2000   [Apr 28, 2015 at 05:00 PM]
If I remember correctly we had the sun techs around 2010 2011. They were horrible. We had switched to them because the ALR's kept burning up within weeks of install. ALR fixed the problem so we switched back.

Pretty much when we service a light it always gets a new lamp unless of course it's fairly new ( less than 2 years )
Antstar85   [Apr 28, 2015 at 05:45 PM]
We are still using suntech and seem to have gotten slightly better but still changing a ton out frequently. My company must have a contract or something with them because I've mentioned switching to DTL and they won't.
gmercury2000   [Apr 28, 2015 at 10:45 PM]
I've said the same thing about switching out. Apparently it's more cost efficient To service the same light 2-3 times cause the pc is junt tgan to buy a higher quality pc.
streetlight98   [Apr 28, 2015 at 11:31 PM]
Yeah I've noticed there are less dayburners now, but I just figured the NGrid lineman were making triple sure to test the PCs before leaving (since they do all lighting repairs at night except for their share of RIDOT freeway lighting, which they are HORRIBLE at maintaining. A quarter of them are dayburners, two-thirds of them don't work, and the remaining percentage actually work as intended.) Rolling Eyes In their defense though, they will fix the lights at an interchange and after a week to a month the whole string will go out. Seems to be wiring issues and not the fixtures, though you'd think they would get their thumbs out of their behinds and fix the lights, since most haven't worked in more than a decade. Definitely wiring issues though since I've seen fixtures "come back to life" as a cycling dayburner after being dead for ten years, and the old PCs are still on the fixtures. NGrid is very weird when it comes to freeway lighting. Very sporadic. And they're hard to report since they require a street name and apparently "State Route 37" or "Interstate 295" isn't specific enough. Rolling Eyes

I kinda see the dayburners as making up for the lights that haven't worked in 10 years, yet have been billed the estimated kWh charge all that time. Many of the freeway poles are missing altogether from knockdowns over the years that were never replaced and yet NGrid is STILL charging the state for the fixtures. The state doesn't care though since all that money comes from the taxpayers. So it's a "heads they win, tails we loose" situation.
