Wow! Out of interest, how much does the refractor ans door together weigh? is it true that these beasts really weigh up to 100 pounds?

I have both a merc and HPS M1000. The Merc weighs around 60-70 pounds, the HPS aroung 80

Wow! Does the HPS one have a "mag-reg" ballast like a lot of the early HPS ballasts? I have an 80s 400W HPS Westinghouse ballast and it's huge and quite the paperweight, probably about 20 pounds by itself.

It came out of a 90s Hubbell floodlight and it is gargantuan.

ahh was the original ballast not 120V? Interesting... I figured by the 80s HPS ballasts had shrunken down somewhat.

The original ballast was rated for 480volts, but that was when the fixture was first manufactured. It was refitted with a 400 watt ballast and spent many years lighting a parking lot at the local B-Kwik. In 2008, two of these, along with two Pemco 400 watters, were replaced and I got all four of them. As to the HPS, light, it was originally a Merc with a 120V ballast, but the ballast failed. Now here's where it gets complicated. I bought a new 1000 watt MV ballast on the 'bay and put it in the step door. then when I got this one, I switched the MV ballast over to this and sunk the HPS ballast in the step door.

ahh yeah for such a high wattage 480V makes sense because even with a 100A breaker, at 120V you could only have twelve lights. It wouldn't make too much sense lol. So the step door light was originally a merc as well?
