Ah my neighbord have one of these but in white. They use CFLs in the post and they relamp like crazy. They must be buying store brand CFLs or something because they're running base down and I'd imagine heat isn't a huge issue. I've had base-up CFLs last for 10 years (GE Helicals) but their CFLs are dying faster than incandescents. I'm glad then 2 our of the three lamps are dead though because that thing is a glarebomb and shines right through my window. I'm ready to go over there with some tin foil and mask off the glass panels that face my window lol.
They must have given up with the CFLs because now they have two soft white A19 incandescents and one other A19 that's a light blue tint, either a Sylvania daylight incandescent or a GE Reveal...
Those new type halogen A lamps tend to burn out too fast so I will be using some 69 watt Traffic Signal lamps that I have. Since they are rated for 130 volts, they should last longer on a 120 volt line.
I haven't had any A19 halogen fatalities yet but I've noticed when run horizontally they dim out really bad because the filament sags and ends up against the wall of the capsule.
