Westinghouse OV-15

OV-15 Opened up.
Tiny GE lamp in it, and the ballast and all that stuff.
It was VERY dirty when I got it, so I just took it apart got some water and cleaned it all off.

No it wasn't really THAT dirty....I've seen worse....the OV-15s from the 70s like the one here generally are one of the cleanest!

It still was much dirtier than it is now.

Looks a lot cleaner than my R47 which came with a free bird's nest.

There were feathers in this when I first opened it, Lots of them, but no nest though.

I think those were seagull feathers.

My 250 watt MV OV-15 is still pretty clean after 30 years of service.

I want to restore this thing, What are the ways to make it look as good as new?

It does look like new in my opinion, but I guess repainting it would make it as new looking as possible.

This pic makes it look cleaner than it is. xD There is still lots of dirt in it the top and bottom are yeah. And there is LOTS of rust in places. Like in the door hinge.

Just sand the corrosion.

I guess since he said he's sandblasting it in his other pic, it'll be all nice and clean after.

Do the photocell sockets come off of these things?

They can be removed by unscrewing two screws next to the receptacle on the top side.
The black ring can then be removed and the receptacle goes next. Nothing to it really.

I just got it off, thanks! The rust must have made it stick on there, just took a bit of fidgeting to get it off.
