I agree they are very expensive in the UK they are £50, (about $75USD) if the prices dont come down I can see them becoming discontinued as no one will buy them, to date I haven't found them in any Stores only on the Internet.
Yeah. $30 is still insane for a light bulb. Very few people, especially in this economy, can afford to blow thirty bucks on a lamp that has no garentee as to how long it will last. That's the thing. LED technoledgy for home lighting hasn't been around for 20 years to see if the lamp will last that long. My Utilitech lamps are doing great although i swear one of them blinks occassionally.
Not ME! I dropped the $ on converting the entire house to LED lamps and haven't had a problem for the last year they've been in service. The Electric bill is a bit nicer too, Although I have that 100 MV OVH lighting my back yard up!
$30 is still outrageous even if you can afford to switch your whole house to LED. I don't buy the lamps for my family's house because i don't own the house. I only put LED in my room.
Michael, it is yellow for a REASON! The yellow is actually the phosphor inside....and the LEDs inside lights up BLUE! If there was no yellow stuff on it...it would light up TOTALLY blue instead of a true soft white color (I swear it's exact same soft white color like an incandescent and does much better job than those Utilitech lamps I have bought for my fan!)
Do you notice how the white LEDs have yellow inside it? Thats the SAME stuff...except it is ON the plastic instead of being inside the LEDs. That helps the lighting distribution and quality....Trust me...if this lamp was inside a fixture hidden, you would have a HARD time knowing it is actually an LED instead of LED....only keen eyes would know it is LED! You can read more about this type of lamp in this page it explains it all
This is also the VERY first LED lamp with a remote phosphor (the yellow stuff) They have improved the version of the remote phosphor LED which is found in here
I can actually feel the warmth from the bulb itself
All the Best
Colin
