Nice sign! I have a similar one, a NO PARKING LOADING ZONE sign. I think it's from the early 1970s since it's non reflective and we switched to symbol signs in the late 70s. I think it sat in a stockroom since the sign looks practically brand new.

Thanks! This sign was used by the old head custodian some 20+ years ago to reserve his own parking spot right outside the custodian "man cave" next to the stock room. It was probably a knock-down before that. It looks brand new in the pic but it's not. It's got minor scuffs and scratches on it, the camera just didn't pick them up. The 30" stop sign I recently got is pristine though, as it's only a few months old. I like engineer grade reflective signs better than the others since the engineer grade ones don't look and different. The others have clearly visible honeycomb and checker patterns visible. I still can't tell the difference between high-intensity and diamond grade though lol.

To be honest, I wish that the whole sign wasn't reflective since I find them impossible to read at night since they just appear white when the headlights shine directly on them. With street signs, it would make more sense if only the street name was reflective and the rest of the sign wasn't but for other signs the full-reflectivity is fine. But reflective street signs are impossible to read at night IMO.

We have some at my school too! We have some poles with "NO PARKING ANYTIME" that are aiming at the sky lol. Snowplows love to back into them or go infront of them

Yeah the plows always knock a few over. We don't have any of these left up now but we have a bunch of No Parking Fire Lane signs with no arrows. Some of those mysteriously walked away from the poles. I guess some kids grabbed a ladder and a wrench lol. I only take signs if they're given to me or if they're laying on the ground (and the latter only if there's no one around lol).

Yeah he's a cool guy. Ge grabs us sodas from the teacher's lounge sometimes (since sodas aren't allowed to be sold to students because of all the child obesity stuff. I'm pretty heavy myself but I don't drink much soda anyway. Mostly water).

Ahh most of my signs are engineer grade but I have a MAXIMUM 80 km/h sign that's high intensity. I believe the difference between high intensity grade and diamond grade sheeting is while both have a honeycomb pattern, diamond grade has the vertical stripes in the sheeting too. Like what's on the stop sign you recently got. High intensity only has the honeycomb.

I also prefer engineer grade signs for display. Interesting bit about the reflective street signs. Until recently the highway signs here were done with high intensity lettering and engineer grade background. I personally liked that since the lettering was more visible at night. I think now they use all diamond grade signs. They also put up some Clearview signs randomly but I think the MTO has decided to stick with the traditional FHWA fonts as new signs put up last year used FHWA.

Odd that they banned sodas (or as we call em, pop ) back when I was in high school, they sold all the unhealthy stuff in the cafeteria, candy, slushies, pop, and chips lol.

My parking signs are all engineer grade (handicapped parking included) and I think the "Sidewalk closed" sign I have might be engineer grade (or unreflective) but my older stop sign, the double arrow sign, and the nine-dots sign all have the honeycomb pattern on them. I guess high-intensity.

I saw some signs with weird fonts on my drive to Florida. I guess that's clearview? RIDOT only uses the FHWA fonts. What's the difference? Is clearview supposed to be easier to see/read? (just judging by the name). It's not though. I think they're the same, maybe FHWA is a little easier to read.

Ah thanks. Yeah i like the FHWA fonts since they're more professional looking (same reason why i prefer Helvetica over Ariel and now refuse to use Ariel, condemning it as an unprofessional wannabe font lol).

Ahh I see lol. I also like to use Futura or the TTC font for some of my tags. It has a more vintage look compared to Helvetica lol.

Ah my go-to fonts for McCann Lighting are the Helvetica series and the Bebas/US101 fonts. I use the latter two for NEMA tags in addition to fixture labels. The Helvetica series is used for most labels and the literature such as instructions and ordering sheets. Bebas is the font for the starburst McCann Lighting logo.
