The inside of the Cooper Lighting OVZ. Pretty big ballast. It was REALLY hard to screw that lamp in though.. At least I got it in. Ignitor looks different than most I have seen in other fixtures.. This fixture is for sure after 2003 due to the newer hinge and latch design Wink

Also the OVH has completely different reflector design but still has cycling issues! It may also be the material of the reflector....the OVS did not have as much cycling problems...but I remember the OVZs near my house from around 1988 and they HAD cycling problems!

This was made in 2008 I suppose. The date thing says 42-08

Not sure what the 42 means. Anyone got that?

And maybe its the size of the fixture.. Not sure. Or it may be the cooper ballasts overdriving the lamps a bit?

I never knew they did weeks. Bit nice! But in your guys' opinion... Is the AE 115 or the Cooper OVZ a better fixture?

I've never seen the 250w HPS OVSs or 400w OVMs used on the state highways and interstates cycle prematurley. The newer lights used today do cycle. IMO, cooper should go back to the westinghouse reflectors for their fixtures. Those don't cylce badly.

OVM's never had a premature cycle problem. Those had the same westinghouse reflectors I think.

I said that. And yes, the OVM and OV25 used the same reflector as did the OVS and OV15

The cube ignitor is a Westinghouse design and carried over through Crouse-Hinds and Cooper. My biggest issue with these is the internal wiring sloppiness here.

The internal wiring is pretty sloppy, at least it isn't as sloppy as other fixtures. AE seems to keep their wiring pretty neat. GE doesn't use those tie things on their wires at all.. So it looks a bit messy for them.

One thing I don't get is why they didn't use slip on connectors for the balast wires except on the multi-tap input, they should of used slip on connectors.

The wires aren't slip on because they don't need to be. The factory made the connections the right way. if they made slip on connectors for the factory wired part, it's easier for the connections to come loose and not fuction correctly. My GE M-400 is very neatly wired. The ballast is HUGE.

Yeah you got a point, since these fixtures aren't MADE to be retrofitted. xD The point of one door fixtures are just, when the ballast, ignitor, or capacitor goes out, just replace the fixture.

Well in many fixtures the ignitors are meant to be replaced, the ballast and cap aren't.

I don't have a cobrahead that uses an ignitor so I couldn't tell you. The ignitors only have a limited life. I see lots of 90's 250w HPS M-250R2 with bad caps. They glow as dim as a 50w HPS and have the color tone of LPS.

ALL Of my cobraheads (Except my OV-15) Are HPS, so They all have ignitors. I wait to have another MV or MH fixture. xD

HPS isn't all bad in my opinion as I said. HPS looks cool. xD

I like HPS too. I like the warm up colors and how it has those small arcs when the lamp re-strikes. I don't have any HPS lights now. Only MV, MH, incandescent, and fluorescent. I'm a white light source guy. Surprised
