Have you seen any LEDs already fail? (other than the one that got a new PC that was out for a while). Which LED fixture around your area is the best in terms of light distribution and light output?

I've seen a few of the 80 LED Leotek fixtures with half the LEDs out. The 60 and 80 LED units use two drivers so I'm believing one of the drivers failed. The LRL satellite fixtures Easthampton installed a few years ago, I have seen a few of those that already have been replaced since they originally used the unpainted fixtures and now are using painted as replacements. These are the second town that's used the AEL fixtures and so far I have seen no failures. At work we used cooper OVF LEDs and GE evolves and and we have had no issues thus far other than photocell failures.

The best I've seen in distribution I would have to say are the AEL fixtures, they have a very smooth distribution. The GE's are also very nice to but I think they are glary. The LEOTEKS are ok but I'm noticing some yellowing going on and the lumen output seems to be decreasing.

Ah yeah I heard the LeoTeks aren't doing well in California either. There are some AELs in Burrillville, RI, which has a community-owned utility (Pascoag Utility District) and they seem to be doing well, but they're pretty dim IMO. The lights they replaced were all 50W HPS, mostly DuraStar 2000s and these Autobahn AEL LEDs actually look better than the DuraStar lights lol. Ever seen one of those ugly duckling DuraStars? They're made of fiberglass! lol

Yeah I saw GEs in NH and they out out nice light but they were very glarey. RIDOT's using a mixing pot of LEDs now. With their initial installations with new poles and everything, they used exclusively LeoTek "toilet seat lid" lights but for interchanges where they kept the poles and just switched the lights they used all sorts of brands and models. With one interchange they converted to LED, the M-400 FCOs they removed were less than 10 years old!

The yellowing you're seeing is indeed from the LEDs dimming out. White LEDs are actually blue with a yellow phosphor added to them, so as the LEDs dim out, the light will get yellower.

Oh I've seen the durastars. South Hadley, the next town over from me uses nothing but durastars. South Hadley has it own municipal utility as well.

Yeah those Duras aren't very pleasing to the eye lol. Even the reflector isn't metal! It's mirrored high-temperature plastic!
