I take it you live on a busier road. I have wimpy 100w HPS M-250R2s on my street. Those arms are very common here. Lots still have their origional remote ballasts at the mount part.

We don't use 70, 150, or 200w lights here. we use 50, 100, 250, and sometimes 400.

Here we use 100/150 (usually the ballast for the 100 and 150 around here are multi wattage ballast), 250, 400, and 1000

We don't use 1000w either. For mercury vapor 100, 175, and 400 watts were used. I haven't comfirmed wether or not we used 250w MV becasue I haven't seen one yet.

holyoke uses 100,150,250, and 400. NU uses 50,70,100,150,250,400, and 1k. National grid around here uses 50,70,100,150,250, and 400.

Hmm, i have Nat' Grid too and they don't install 70 or 150 w lights. 50w is to dim IMO. They replace 175w mercs with 50w HPS!

yea but national grid used to be multiple companies formed into one. Rhode island used to be Narragansett electric and mass was known as Massachusetts electric, they probably had different requirements at the time.

Rhode island was actually two comapnies. If you have ever been to pawtucket, cumberland, woonsocket, or lincoln, you've noticed that FCO ligghts are mainly used. Those towns were serviced by Blackstone Vally Electric, which was a small local company that only serviced towns in that area and was bought out by Narragansett elecrtic, then N-Grid bought them out. On N-Grid's website for RI, it has only 50, 100, 250, and 400 listed for cobraheads and 250 & 400 used for floodlighting.

Massachusetts has 4 big companies and 40 municipalities, the bigger being National Grid, Western Massachusetts Electric(NU), Nstar (who nu is currently in the process of merging with), and Unitil. The 6 municipalities in western mass are, Holyoke gas & electric(my provider at my house), Westfield gas & electric, Chicopee electric light, south hadley electric light, russell municipal light, and chester municipal electric light.

Odly, new utility poles here still say "- NE -" (Narragansett electric used that same tag )

the pole nat grid use now say "NG" on them before they used to say "MECO"

I know there are some 35 watt HPS near Boston.....See here!!!

This light has now been replaced with a LEOTEK GC1-40c LED streetlight.
